Nipissing West OPP: two face charges after finding infant in distress

Nipissing West OPP says they have laid charges against two people after an investigation into a mid-February incident.

Officials say officers responded to the incident at a home on Demers Street in West Nipissing where an 11-month old infant was in medical distress. The infant was transported to the North Bay Regional Health Centre, and later to a hospital in Ottawa. The infant has since made a full recovery.

As a result, a 21-year-old from North Bay and 37-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Fail to Provide Necessaries of Life – Child
  • Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm

The 21-year-old has a court date in West Nipissing on July 2 while the 37-year-old remains in custody and will appear before court via video conferencing on Thursday.
