Every four years every property owner in the province gets a new assessment notice from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
This year was supposed to be the year in which the assessments were to be sent out to everyone, starting this week. However, in March, the provincial government announced that the 2020 assessments would be postponed.
Steve McArthur, who works with the municipal and stakeholder relations division at MPAC says because of this, most properties will see their assessment in 2021 based on the 2016 current values.
“Your property assessment for the 2021 tax year will remain the same as the 2020 tax year unless there have been changes to your property,” he explained to Moose FM.
However, McArthur says there are some instances in which assessments will be done.
“We will continue to add the value of new constructions where available,” McArthur stated. “That way new and renovated homes will be added to the municipal tax records.”
