Childcare services offered to frontline workers

The West Nipissing Childcare Corporation at 131 Michaud Street is open now for childcare services for frontline workers.

“Our site has been selected as an emergency site,” one of the childcare workers said. “We do have numerous sites within the area of West Nipissing, namely the schools, but given the fact that they are closed, our site on Michaud Street is open.”

“Therefore, we can accommodate certain parents that are considered frontline workers, where their children could attend our daycare,” they continued.

Officials say they can take 24 children at a time as capacity of the building cannot surpass 50 individuals, including staff.

In order to sign up your child for the care, call 705-753-4144, or register on the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board’s (DNSSAB) website.

“DNSSAB is fully paying the cost of the daycares for the frontline workers and families,” explained the worker. “It’s free to the families that qualify such as paramedics, police officers, nurses, doctors, and so on and so forth.”

“The staff have all the personal protective equipment and are fully trained with respect to the procedures that need to be followed when it comes to sanitizing and taking temperatures,” they continued. “Our doors are locked, you will be greeted at the door, and if the child or parent has been out of the country, if there is a fever or different types of ailments or COVID-19 symptoms, they cannot attend the site.”
