More whooping cough vaccine clinics in West Nipissing

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting more cases of whooping cough in West Nipissing and across the health unit’s district.

“Due to cases not having epidemiological links, we can say with much certainty that there is community spread and other undetected cases in the district,” states a release.

Two additional walk-in whooping cough vaccine clinics have been scheduled in West Nipissing:

  • Wednesday, June 19 (4-6 pm) at the Golden Age Club in Field (65 Jarbeau St.)
  • Friday, June 21 (10 am – 1 pm) Community Health Centre, West Nipissing (68 Michaud St. Sturgeon Falls)

Officials say whooping cough is different from a mild cough or the flu.

They say it is a highly contagious respiratory infection that is spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

A couple of clinics were held earlier this month in Sturgeon Falls and River Valley.
