Nipissing First Nation voters casting ballots

Friday is election day for Nipissing First Nation voters.  

Online voting has been underway since June 1, with an in-person advanced poll last weekend.  

Six people are vying for chief including incumbent Scott McLeod and former chief Marianna Couchie.  

Also running are Cathy Bellefeuille, Rodney Commanda, Darlene Gingras and Thomas Lambert.

13 people are running for seven councillor seats. They include: 

  • Yvette Bellefeuille 
  • Brian Couchie 
  • Corey Gingras 
  • Priscilla Goulais 
  • Roland Granger 
  • Anthony Laforge 
  • Jason Laronde 
  • Michael McColman 
  • Ron Penasse 
  • Mary JoAnne Picard 
  • Joan McLeod Shabogesic  
  • Eric (Rick) Stevens  
  • Samantha Stevens  

Two in-person polling locations are open from 9 am to 8 pm on July 5: 

  • Garden Village Community Centre, 36 Semo Road 
  • Duchesnay Community Hall, 520 A Couchie Memorial Drive 

Officials will be counting the ballots immediately after the polls close and announcing the results.  

There was also a mail-in voting option. 

Nipissing First Nation has 2,749 registered voters.
