The North Bay Battalion added to their ranks on the weekend.
North Bay selected 16 players in the OHL Priority Selection.
Owen Outwater, centre with the Oakville Rangers U16 team, was the Troops first round pick, 11th overall on Friday night.
“We had an idea what we would do. We had a list and we had done a lot of homework, but we really didn’t know who was going to be there,” says Adam Dennis, Battalion General Manager. “We knew there were a couple of teams that could have been wild cards, and they were. With Owen, we thought he would have been gone a little sooner. We hoped he would be there. He was an awesome interview with us. He’s really excited to come to North Bay, which is awesome for us.”
Outwater scored 34 goals and 32 assists in the 2019-20 season, the last before hockey was disrupted by the pandemic.
“North Bay’s a great organization,” said Outwater in a release. “I’ve watched a ton of North Bay games, and it’s really exciting hockey. I’m really excited for what the future is going to hold.”
Outwater describes himself as a “good playmaker”.
“I’m a pass-first guy and I don’t shy away from scoring goals. I’m a good team player. I don’t shy away from the physical game either. I’m good in the corners and in front of the net. I pride myself on playing a 200-foot, all-round game,” he says.
North Bay added two more forwards and a defenceman on Friday night, before selecting six more forwards, four blueliners and two goaltenders in rounds four through fifteen on Saturday.
Two of those forwards are local products and previously played with the North Bay Trappers.
Vaughan Kings centre Kaedyn Long, who is from Astorville, was the 250th pick in the 13th round.
Callander product and Woodbridge resident Chase Thompson, a centre with the Toronto Nationals, was selected 269th overall in the 14th round.
