The Northern Ontario School of Medicine University says it’s succeeding in its mission to help create a flourishing health workforce to serve the north. All 69 eligible NOSM University MD students were matched to residency programs including half a dozen for North Bay.
38 of the students were matched to family medicine (55%) which officials say is highest proportional rate in Canada.
Five of those matched to family medicine will begin their residencies in North Bay on July 1.
The other one locally is in Psychiatry.
“NOSM University is doing its part to connect Northern Ontarians to high-quality health care,” says Dr. Sarita Verma, President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean and CEO. “We are so proud of all of our graduates and thank everyone who has helped them along the way.”
Other members of the class have matched at other schools across the country such as:
– Internal Medicine
– Anesthesiology
– Obstetrics/Gynecology
– General Surgery
– Pathology
– Emergency Medicine
– Radiology
– Psychiatry
– Orthopedic Surgery

69 new physicians are graduating from Canada’s first independent medical university this year, its largest class yet.
