Half a million dollars in federal funding is supporting the growth of the forestry sector in Sturgeon Falls.
That from Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, who announced the FedNor funds will help Sturgeon Falls Brush and Contracting Limited (SFB) create jobs and expand their business.
The company will purchase a boiler system with the money, allowing it to dry lumber to the specific requirements of its clients.
Along with increasing the company’s product line, three jobs are expected to be created.
“Northern Ontario’s forestry sector has provided multi-generational job opportunities, and it remains a top priority for many areas including in Nickel Belt,” says Serré. “The expansion of Sturgeon Falls Brush and Contracting will mean good jobs, right here in the community, as well as the continued excellence of a long-standing business in Sturgeon Falls.”
SFB is excited that FedNor is supporting its expansion.
“This funding will play an important role in helping us grow our revenues, innovate, and meet the demand for kiln-dried lumber in our region. We’re proud to be investing in our community and creating good, well-paying jobs here in Northern Ontario,” says André Larcher, CEO.
The expansion is expected to attract new businesses and investments in Sturgeon Falls.
Officials also say biomass from area mills will be used to heat the boiler.
